A Solon police officer is recovering after his police cruiser was struck by another driver. Just before 11 p.m. Monday, police said Officer Roy Cunningham’s was struck by a Monte Carlo near the intersection of Harper Road and State Route 43. The driver, a 19-year-old Garfield Heights man, had been trying to make an improper turn into a gas station when he crashed into the cruiser, Solon police said. Both men were treated for minor injuries at the scene.

During a crash investigation, another Solon officer discovered a small amount of marijuana inside the Monte Carlo.

The 19-year-old was then arrested on fourth degree misdemeanor drug abuse charges and held on a $250 cash bond.

He was also cited for failure to yield while turning left.

Blackman-Leoni Township police released a video Tuesday of a stolen police SUV that lead officers on a wild chase through three Michigan counties.

Police say Ryan Elliot Cunningham, 34, escaped custody Friday and stole a Chevy Tahoe safety vehicle.

Cunningham was arrested at the Colonial Inn Motel, 6027 Ann Arbor Road, before stealing the SUV. Blackman-Leoni Sergeant Chris Boulter told the Jackson Citizen Patriot that Cunningham allegedly had a sawed off shotgun, meth and components to make the drug at the motel. Cunningham was in custody in the rear seat of the SUV, wearing nothing but black underwear, when moved to the front seat, stealing the vehicle.

Michigan State Police pursued the SUV on 75 mile chase with speeds exceeding 100mph on 1-94; ending in a crash on US-23 two miles from the Ohio state line.

Cunningham was arraigned Tuesday facing seven felony charges that include fleeing an officer, auto theft, two methamphetamine-related charges and three firearm charges.

Unable to fly a ball of nylon effectively, I impact a cornfield breaking my pelvis, back and neck causing instant paralysis. As I lay waiting for help, spinal shock begins to set in paralyzing my diaphragm and breathing on my own becomes impossible. Rescue breathing is performed as I lose consciousness. Paramedics arrive and I’m med-flighted to UW Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin where I awake days later after surgery and begin life as a quadriplegic.
